CHIFLEY TOWER

NSW | AUSTRALIA

COMPLETED 2023
PROJECT PARTNER Jadecross
LUMINAIRES FEATURED Odessa Floodlight

Due to the multi faceted lighting requirement for both column and walkway illumination at a high mounting height ER&D and lighting partner Jadecross selected the Odessa by Ligman Australia for its robust nature, adjustability and high outputs. A custom mounting frame was designed by lighting partner Jadecross to house four Odessas at a time. Two of these Odessa luminaires were carefully angled to highlight the architectural detail of the sandstone pillars while the other two would create ample glare free illumination for the long and curving external passageways to ensure the ongoing beauty of the architecture continued to be enjoyed by all.

“Chifley Tower was conceived as a building that would stand amongst the most recognised and timeless pieces of architecture in the world” – William Louie, Kohn Pederson Fox

Residing on one of the most exclusive plots of the Sydney business district Chifley Tower at 244 meters tall was the tallest building in Sydney from 1992- 2019. The skyscraper was designed for the Bond Corporation in 1988 by New York Architects Kohn Pederson Fox in conjunction with Sydney architects Travis Partners. As a nod to Alan Bond’s celebrated Americas Cup victory in 1983 the prominent street facing curved façade was designed to mimic a giant glass sail.

To ensure the ongoing beauty of the New York inspired art deco architecture the building continually undergoes upgrades and maintenance. One of the most recent upgrades was the relighting of the street facing entrance and exterior walkways. ER&D Consulting Engineers were engaged by Charter Hall to provide a lighting technology which would elevate and highlight the building’s quality of architecture, while also illuminating the exterior entrance and walkways for commuters
